Favourite Drugstore Mascaras – Marisa Chiorello

Hey there beautiful souls!

It’s no secret to the many people in my life, that I enjoy expressing myself through makeup. Your skin is an easel and your makeup is the paint. You can make beautiful creations with various makeup products! And, this is what I love the most!

Most of the time, I like to keep my makeup looks pretty simple, aside from using highlighters (Anastasia Beverly Hills is my go-to) and bold lipsticks or lip-gloss (Kylie Cosmetics, bareMinerals, Too Faced, MAC, and NYX are my go-tos).  My simple look really focuses on two main areas though. They are the lips and the eyes. Oh yes, it’s all about the eyes!

Unlike my highlighters, my lipsticks, and my lip-gloss, I do not necessarily splurge when it comes to my eye makeup. I typically only use mascara, because my eyes are very sensitive and eye shadow sometimes irritates them. So, the mascara I use can be found in your local drugstore! They are definitely priced reasonably! Over the past few months, I’ve tried a variety of different mascaras, and I’ve found some of my favourites! Here they are! Are you ready for ultimate length and volume? Your lashes will thank you!

My Favourite Drugstore Mascaras:

Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara, Waterproof Black, $5.47.  This mascara is perfect if you desire the fake lash look. The brush design really helps coat every single lash. The middle of the brush works to coat the middle of your lash line, and the bristles coat the inner and outer corners. People will question if you have eyelash extensions. This mascara made my eyelashes look incredible!

Rimmel Mascara

Maybelline Total Temptation Mascara, $8.99. This mascara is the one if you’re craving extreme volume! Each lash gets coated with Maybelline’s fomula that is infused with coconut extract, without getting clumpy. You’ll also be able to notice ideal separation between your lashes. If you’re craving length for your lashes, I noticed that this mascara added volume and length to my lashes! They felt so soft, too.

Total Temptation Mascara

Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious Mascara Blackest Black, $6.49.  You’ll love this mascara if you’re into the fanning effect! I found that this mascara not only added volume to my lashes, but it layered my lashes! My lashes looked much fuller and healthier, and that could be because Maybelline’s formula is infused with oils!

Lash Sensational

Wet N Wild Max Volume Plus Mascara Amp’d Black, $3.49. Talk about extreme volume, this mascara really delivers! In fact, you’ll see 10X more volume of your lashes when you use it! I love this mascara because not only does it give you extreme volume, it also separates and extends your lashes. When I used it, my lashes did not clump, stick together, or smudge. This was my go-to mascara for a long time.

Wet N Wild Max Volume

Wet N Wild Mega Volume Mascara, $2.99. I’m currently using this mascara, and… wow! I definitely see a difference in my lashes from using this mascara. It gives my lashes just the right amount of volume (they almost look fake), my lashes are fuller, and it separates each lash. I see a massive difference in the length of my lashes as well. Not only that, but with this mascara, my lashes are protected. With each coat of this mascara, I am adding Vitamin E onto my lashes which softens them, moistures them, and protects them. I also love this mascara because it is waterproof, sweat-proof, humidity-resistant, and smudge-resistant- so I can wear it in any type of weather. Most importantly, it’s cruelty-free and gluten-free.

Mega Volume

If you’re on the hunt for voluminous, thicker, fuller, and longer lashes try one of my favourites! Let me know what you think!

Until next time,

Matte vs. Shimmery Blushes

Ahh, decisions decisions. To go matte or to go shimmery?  I definitely went through a phase with each, and I’ll tell you why.

When I was younger, I was attracted to the Benefit Cosmetics packaging because it was just so darn cute! And all of their blushes are really shimmery. But when I started to get pimples around grade 10, the shimmer just wasn’t working for me anymore. It tends to highlight your pimples and large pores, and most of my acne was on my cheeks! I wanted to avoid anything that would draw attention to it so I gave up on the shimmer blushes for a while.

I switched to matte blushes because I felt that it hid the pores and pimples more. But recently my skin has been doing A LOT better and I’ve given shimmery blushes another go. I tried Benefit’s Bella Bamba again the other day and I fell in love! When your skin is smooth it just adds that extra level of glowy-ness that we all crave in the summer. I am so happy I’ve found my love for shimmery blushes again.

What do you prefer? Matte or shimmer?!

High End vs. Drugstore Products

Back when I was a teenager and had no concept of bills and responsibilities, I was quite the snob when it came to skincare and makeup. Anything from the drugstore was like taboo for me. Back then makeup and skincare were the only high end things I could afford and it made me feel super glam. A couple years later rolled around and I find my self broke AF and now where my money used to go to glamorous beauty products, it now goes to rent and groceries. Needless to say I had to downgrade my beauty routine, or at least what I thought was a downgrade.

Once I tried a few foundations and concealers from Maybelline (it helps that they made their packaging more chic btw) I was actually hooked! The Maybelline Fit me line works just as well if not better than some foundations you will find at Sephora, and for a fraction of the price!

Another item I like to buy at the drugstore is lip products. I don’t see the value in spending 40$ on a YSL tinted lip balm when I can get a similar product for 10$.

A few things I still find myself getting at high end places is blushers, bronzers. I am just a sucker for cute packaging and I just don’t think the drug store has nailed it in that department yet… It’s definitely no Too Faced or Benefit! (check out this post https://livelifeintheflorallane.com/2019/04/06/makeup-collection-blushes-bronzers/ to see my whole blush and bronzer collection!)

And finally, with skincare I can go either way. I’ve used both drugstore and high end stuff but it depends on the product. Eye cream and moisturizer I am okay with getting at the drugstore since the Neutrogena hydro boost line is really good. But when it comes to serums and special treatments, I prefer to leave to the high end brands. My favourite right now is the Kiehls Cannabis Sativa Oil, but I will leave that for another post!

When it comes to Masks, I always thought the more expensive the better, however I have found my holy grail mask… and it’s from the drugstore! I tried a similar mask from a higher end brand (PTR), and the L’oreal one was just so much better for me! It felt like it got more of the gunk out (sorry for the visual lol).

That’s it for me for now 🙂

All About Eyelash Extensions

I’ve been getting my lashes done consistently for a little over a year now, and I wanna tell you guys all about it. So first of all they look AMAZING (when done well) and I just feel so much more confident with a set of lashes. So the upside is that you wake up looking like  a VS model every morning, but they definitely do have their downsides.

For instance, they’re kinda annoying af. Like you are very limited in what you can do in just your everyday life just like washing your face, itching your eyes, and you can’t use any oil based skincare products because the oils loosen up the glue and it makes them fall out faster. Not to mention when they start to fall out, you kinda look like a crazy person if you don’t refill fast enough. So I try to go about every 4-6 weeks depending on how long they look good for.

I’ll insert some photos of my lashes at their peak LOL.

I go to Natural Scents Medical Spa near Yonge and Sheppard because they do amazing work and their prices cannot be beat! I paid 70$ plus tax for a full volume set. Like these prices are unheard of and you should totally check them out at http://naturalscentsspa.ca/

Chow for now 🙂
