The New Instagram Update Is Good for Our Mental Health

So as many of you know, Instagram recently changed they way likes are viewed. Now only you can see how many likes your pics got, and that social anxiety that comes along with not getting enough likes just magically went away for me.

I struggle with anxiety (I’m actually prescribed meds) and there would be times where I would want to post it, but then I wouldn’t because of the fear that I wouldn’t get enough likes and everyone would think I’m a loser.

AND before this update I would have to worry about what time of day is the best to post in order to get the most likes and I would worry so much about my hashtags to get more exposure.

But now, I literally just post whatever I want whenever I want and that social media anxiety has definitely diminished for sure. As a blogger this is so hypocritical to say, but like social media is soooo bad for our mental health. I’ve had legitimate crying spells over my social medias because I didn’t feel like I was popular enough. I’m not proud of this but it came to the point where I had boughten bots because I was so embarrassed with my lack of followers.

Social media is great in so many ways and so terrible in others. I’m so grateful for this Instagram update because I think it goes back to the ways when Instagram first started. In the start people would just post what they were doing in the moment and just have fun with it and now it’s turned into this influencer takeover with carefully curated content, and none of it is all that genuine (again this is me being very hypocritical seeing as I am trying to be an influencer).

I’m trying to change my mindset, I’m not so worried about the followers or the likes. I just want to go back to a time where I would do what I wanted without my social anxiety taking over, it’s a constant daily battle but I think a lot of us struggle with this.

Now I have hired marketers for my instagram for growth (I’ll talk about that in another post) but that is more so that I can get exposure to the blog and make some money off my ambassador programs, not because I need everyone to love me.

What are your thoughts on the new update, do you like it or do you think they should switch back?
